Catching a Python for Cash
I just read about what’s probably the weirdest competition ever. Seriously, they should turn it into a reality show. It seems a little too weird to be true, but I’m telling you it’s actually happening.
It’s called the Python Challenge. It’s a program from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to help control the python population in the Florida Everglades. Basically, the snake is not native to those swamps and they’ve taken over, killing lots of local animals.
There’s like 100,000 of them living in the Everglades and the Wildlife Commission says it’s time for them to go. So they set up a neat little contest. For one month anyone who wants can come down and become a snake hunter. Yep, they teach you what you need to know to bag or kill the 23 foot long killer snake.
Sounds awesome, doesn’t it?
Depending on the size of the snake you can get up to a few thousand dollars for a good one. Pretty cool, I think.
However you look at it, it’s a pretty clever solution to a weird problem. So far they haven’t had too much success, but every little bit helps. Want to head down there and give it a try? I think it’d be kinda cool.
If you think I should lead a team down there to hunt snakes, leave a comment!
