Freedom Is On The Line
“Who saves his country violates no law.”
Napoleon Bonaparte
1769-1821, French General, Emperor
Woah! Powerful words, especially when you stick the word Emperor in there. And I think this quote really has a lot to tell us during these trying times.
Do you agree with this quote? Do you think that as long as your intentions are for the good of your country, nothing you do is wrong?
I hope this article stirs up emotions on both sides of the table, because I really don’t think there can be a timelier issue. There are all sorts of ideas being thrown around now about how to change our country. And who’s right?
One side of the argument might go something like this:
At the time, reformers might look like terrorists or subversives. But if they win through, then they’ll be the ones writing the history books. History will be seen through their eyes and they can make themselves look like the heroes.
Think back to the founding of our country. We call them patriots, but at the time the British were calling them traitors. Yet since we are the product of their efforts, we call them heroes.
So this argument would basically say that as long as the reformer wins, he’s justified.

The other side might run something like this:
If everyone decides to remake, or “save,” his country the way he sees fit, then it’s just a bunch of individuals striving for power. That’s not justified dissatisfaction with the government.
That’s anarchy!
If your view of how to save the day isn’t shared by your fellow citizens and can’t be passed democratically, then maybe things shouldn’t be changed.
And if you go ahead and stir up rebellion, well then maybe you deserve to be tried as a criminal.
Does this make sense? Go here and let me know what you think.
So we’ve basically got two ways of looking at this issue. I’m sure there are countless more ways and arguments that could be said. But my point is very simple.
The issues facing our nation, whether in our housing markets, our armed forces, our government, or our economy, all need to be faced with one thing:
With the desire to make the United States the greatest country it can be.
The only justification for dissent, in whatever form it takes, is the belief that we’re trying to improve our land. And make it a better place for ourselves and our children.
