William and Kate Tied the Knot

prince william and kate middleton's weddingHow many of you caught “Good Morning, England” on TV Friday morning? Whoops, I mean “Good Morning, America.” It just seemed a little more British than usual, in case you didn’t notice. Yes, Prince William’s wedding was all anyone could talk about on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and today (until Osama’s big news) … I’m not quite sure what sort of event over here could stir up that kind of excitement, but if you have any suggestions, let me know since it would be a great idea for a marketing campaign!

How did you find William and Kate’s wedding? Was it a little hard to relate to since we don’t have royalty over here (aside from “the King”)? Or did you spend the entire time picturing yourself being in their shoes?

I’d really like to encourage all of you to share some of your reflections on the royal wedding and royalty in general. I think all of the different perspectives we’d have about kings and queens would be interesting. As for me, here are some of the thoughts that were running through my head when Prince William and Commoner Kate tied the knot:

1) Will and Kate probably can’t spend a quiet weekend at her parent’s house, can they? And if they can, could “mum and dad” still make her clear the table?

2) As foreign as the idea sounds, every little girl out there still dreams of being a princess. We’re raised on fairy tales (though I don’t remember Cinderella ending with 24-hour TV coverage).

3) They rode up to the wedding in a car with 500 horsepower and left in a carriage with 4 horsepower.

4) And finally, I don’t think the fact that America lacks royalty is something to be ashamed of. We took a stance over 200 years ago that all men are created equal. That doesn’t mean we lowered kings down to the common man – it means we raised the common man up to be a king.

I didn’t watch any of it – not interested, yet just like any other newly weds – I wish them a long and overall happy life together. It will be harder for them since they live in a ‘fish bowl’
