Change is definitely a good thing, when it comes on the wings of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. (Bet you never thought you’d read that sentence, did you?)
Well, a group of someone or other has decided that there are now 201 cities on the “improving” scale. They claim to know this from data gathered from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Census Bureau, and Freddie Bureau, I mean, Mac. If your town has seen steady increases in employment, housing permits, and home prices for 6 months straight, well then you qualify for this made up list.
But now for a quick dose of reality. I can’t stand lists. They use really really specific data that’s carefully chosen to prove one tiny point. It doesn’t make a difference to anyone’s life, it doesn’t cause anything to happen any better or any faster, and it sure the heck wastes a ton of money.
So where were we? Oh yeah, improving markets. Well, if you’re in one of those newly christened towns (Atlanta, Seattle, Green Bay, etc.) then enjoy the spotlight that you’re already enjoying. And if you’re not, well, you might really be doing pretty well anyway.
