    Cory,

I guess I’m missing something? It took me a moment to get the two ll were forming a house, but it really doesn’t convey anything more than real estate.

I was under the impression you wanted something that lent insight into how ssology is different, this send a traditional run of the mill message, that doesn’t evoke excitement but leans towards run of the mill!

  • http://ShortSaleFundamentals.com cboatright

    George,

At first glance it seems simple which is what I really like about it. However as you stare at it for 10 seconds you begin to notice some powerful messages.

The word ” sale ” is a different color which accents the foundation of the type of transaction the community is most excited to dicuss

The .com is the same color as sale yet it is turned on vertically which to me is a common Web 2.0 identifier. I like that too.

The two “l l’s ” you mentioned do form the roof of a house. That is a very clear, simple conveyance of real estate. However one l is a different color from the other one. That is a subtle message of it take both the ‘sale” and the “ology” or the study or hence to be the communal effort to make the deal work.

The color combination is pleasing to the eye and it will reproduce well on shirt and hats.

I’m certainly not saying this is the absolute best this designer and can do. I think it might be possible to accent “community” or “elite service” very subtly without mucking up the clean logo. However although this logo seems boring at first glance it is very professional and conveys a lot with simplicity.

Just my two cents here… what does anyone think?

  • George Ross

Problem is, you only get 2 seconds with this one, and you wouldn’t look at it in that much detail as you are. For marketing, attention and for it to be memorable beyond the moment, it doesn’t make you want to look into it any further and find out what it really is, what is going on, or ask any questions about it.

Back to the target audience questions, short sellers, what would they do upon sight of the logo vs homeowners vs those who don’t know anything either way but see you walking down the street with it. Simple is good if you have lots of dollars to create a lasting in your face impression, meaning over a period of time, brand and name recognition occurs as well. So most of the major brand names have the benefit of this, but most smaller companies don’t.

An image is worth a thousand words or picture as a they, and #40 is only truly words when it comes down to it!

I’m trying to be helpful so please don’t take it the wrong all!

  • Keegan

Hi, I’m the one who design #0

    Here’s what I thought

A great logo was created by long process. so there will be logo transformation. for example is Nike.

Before the swoosh become independent, they used NIKE with swooshed under the type.

So in this case, I think we better use typeface with accent, because the brand name it self still need to be recognizable/memorized. So…after the brand has been known worldwide, You can start play with images as your main Brand. ShortSaleology still need to be exposed first afterall..that’s a hard word to spell.

    CMIIW

  • Keegan

o yeah.. there are plenty logo that only play with type. for example Intel, microsoft, dell, P&G, fedex, DHL, Disney etc.

can you explain that george ?

  • Freddy Diaz

Now that I look at #32 and 33, they’re pretty cool. Goes with the theme. I would try it out with a blue color to see how it looks. Now lets think of world renouned companies like Mc Donalds or Verizon. They are all just words and they get the point across. Color is everything I think. #40 will work very well I think.

  • Freddy Diaz

    I meant renowned, lol

  • George Ross

Freddy, that’s my point, you take away the name from those logos and some of them you will know, others you may not. You would never recognize a small foreign companies logo. World renown branding cost lots of money and takes years to build.

I don’t really know what Cory is exactly looking for, simple is great, but also an image that can be used separate from the term shortsaleology is what I’m expressing and the community will automatically know what it is. There are going to be times and advertising where that term just does not fit on things with the slogan on top of that.

  • George Ross

    #50 has potential!

  • Freddy Diaz

I didnt see #50, where is it?

  • Freddy Diaz

oh there it is… it wasnt there a minute ago. Yeah I like 50

  • http://www.phoenixsolutionsllc.net Jay

    I still don’t get it.

I do not think any on them are going to be recognized by RE investors just looking at them. (in 3 seconds or less) I think a lot of folks will think you are talking about shorting stocks or just have no idea.

I have asked this before but do not think I received an answer . Who is the target audience? And if it is RE investors why don’t you incorporate the $ sign into the logo. Lets face I know we want to help folks (myself included) but most RE investors (I assume including you Cory) are “for profit operations” Its nice to put what ever spin you want on this but if you are marketing to RE investors then you need to zero in like a laser on what it is you do and what the benefit is PERIOD!

Anything else is just fluff plain and simple,

    Good luck
    Jay

  • George Ross

    Jay I agree,

But you want to be careful with the salesperson side of things as well, you don’t have to be in your face with a logo, the words and campaign strategies can project that as well.

I think Cory is looking to make something more professional than sleazy, which is what the image of this business is right now. Also, to make your point more defined, in the end it is about $$$ savings for everyone, the bank, the owner, the investor and the purchaser.

But again, I think you can communicate that in much more effective ways than having it in your image, you don’t walk around with the Scarlett Letter (dollar sign) on your chest do you?

  • http://www.phoenixsolutionsllc.net Jay

    George
You are correct. I was getting a little frustrated because it appears at least to me that almost every one here is breaking all the rules of marketing as I understand them them. . Just be cause they think THE MARKET will understand it does not mean they will. I guess I will just have to agree to disagree about how they are doing this. I agree that this should be professional.
    Thanks again
    Jay

  • George Ross

I was trying in a nice way to express the same sentiment. As I know them to be, marketing is out the door on this one.

I use to think marketing and the principals behind it were for the lazy college students that just need to get through, I later found, it really works! However just like some others were saying about ology of shortsaleology there is a definite science behind marketing which I think, this is a great opportunity being missed!

  • http://www.phoenixsolutionsllc.net Jay

    George,

Your words, priceless. (No pun intended)

I hope they find a logo the will be understood by RE investors beyond this group. After all I thought that is what this is all about.

    Thanks
    Jay

Wow there are more logos going up all the time!

Thank you guys for all the input. That is why I decided to make this a community feedback event.

We are all going to have different opinions about this, but the idea is for you to voice yours so it would be considered before a final choice is made.

Here is a resource sent to me that I think adds a good visual representation of powerful logos built for branding worldclass services and products.

    http://www.listphile.com/Fortune_500_Logos?page=1

Do you see how most of them are basically text?
Most have only 2 colors max.

Consider eBay for example. Does it convey community, selling, bartering, Web, e-commerce, auctions, … anything?

Why is SO powerful? Some would say the TRAFFIC AND EXPOSURE made it an identifiable logo to the millions of users of it. Others might say it was a cool and un-used word “eBay” in fact… it wasn’t even a word… it was a made up one.

    Hmmm…. let’s see. Is Shortsaleology a word?

    NOPE

    It’s made up.

Now…. let’s see. What do I think of if I’m a real estate investor and I had a friend ask me this question.

“Hey man… have you ever heard of ShortSaleology?”

What is the first thing that comes to mind?

Let’s start here and see what happens from the responses. I’ll go first.

If I never had heard of ShortSaleology before in my life, yet I’m a real estate investor… I would think immediately of : Short Sale + Study of it = some place to learn about short sale investing

    Who’s next?

  • George Ross

Keegan, my point is, a tremendous amount of money goes into marketing for these large companies, and all they want is there name to be imprinted and memorable, but they advertise everyone, to anyone and in many different venues, they spend so much money promoting that logo, more than our entire community makes in a year, because they invest millions into advertising, so don’t be confused about it being a great logo, they have great marketing streams and dollars. The next thing is, I think where all this breaks down, those MAJOR corporations, has a lot more population to cover and spread the word for them, we are only about 3 percent of the US homeowners and even less when it comes to investors.

I agree, the name will sale itself Cory, however, again it goes back to image, you are not creating one with just words and you are tarnishing it with cash symbols!

  • George Ross

    Cory,

I just have a question, I just noticed your Short Sale Fundamentals logo at the top of the page.

Can you tell me what is wrong with that one as a starting point and making it a little more web 2.0, professional and crisp.

I really think that has capture a lot of what everyone is saying on the post all together, so you got it right that time. Make you could make elements a little more abstract but the bridge, the dollar signs, the house, the people, the business, the community, it’s all there!

  • George Ross

It even has the time clock, which of course we know is a key, key, key element!

  • George Ross

    Cory,

Just wanted to let you know I’m eclecticsherone on 99designs.com, I’m giving feedback to help spark more interest in the competition and try to win the prize for the contest, hope you don’t mind.

    Cory:
#34 logo is great, It is clean & simple. The colors are bright & clean. Two things with short sales: You have a home that may go into foreclosure and you have people in distress. This logo represents both, a home & helping hands, to relieve them from stress. The hands are neat as the chimmney. You could even have smoke coming from the chimmney with words that helps the home owners ie: “save your credit”, “”we can help”. etc. I like the slogan ” A community of short investors serving as one. I would add the word “sale”. A community of short “sale” investors serving as one. Also maybe the word SALE be in a different color to highlite this to the home owner.

    PICK ME PICK ME

    Cory:
Great idea on a LOGO CONTEST!!. You sure have accomplished a lot. I like logo # 15. The colors are great and good illustration. It represents a house and a person. The person has their hands up representing they are free from debt. The house is a shadow behind him representing this house (or stress) is now all behind the person. I like the word “SALE” in a different color. This stands out from the other words & pops. After all, this is what the home owner needs & wants.

I like the slogan “a community of short sale investors serviing as one”. You could also add the slogan from # 2 but change the word umbrella to roof: ” service, speed, confidence all under one roof”
The home owner wants to hear these words & it make the business card stronger.

    Keep up the good work.

    John

#74 Best describes your creative brief. Also this was also one of the few designers that understood what you missed typed in the brief “short community”. The design incorporates a community working together. Most important you will be able to use the graphic element as a stand-alone train the audience to recognize it as such. Create you own tee shirts, mugs and hats etc. with it .

  • George Ross

Hey Cory, did you already select a winner to receive the fundamentals or hour?
