The Homeless Guy Blog

Today I am posting information about The HomeLess Guy Blog

Here is a blog from a homeless guy and his life on the streets of Nashville where he goes to McDonalds and uses free computers to write his story. He served in the US Navy, went to college, managed a convenient store, bought a house, got married, had kids… but suffers from social anxiety and severe depression. Please say a prayer for him and others like him.

So… I know you are asking the question.

WHAT IN THE WORLD DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH SHORT SALES OR REAL ESTATE????

The answer is: Nothing and that is exact reason I posted it.

You see if you are anything like me, you get so laser focused on real estate that you forget to consider other things in life. That means you are so focused on YOU that you forget OTHERS.

THOUSANDS of you have been following my blog. You know that I have heart to serve others. In fact, I believe that working in short sales is a tremendous way you can do that. However serving others outside of real estate is just as if not MORE important.

I’m guilty of focusing on my own needs and not those of others. When I read the Kevin’s (The Homeless Guy’s) blog it helped me recognize and appreciate some of the things I take for granted.

If you are a giver and think of others over yourself… keep it up. If you are a selfish person (like me at times) perhaps Kevin’s story will inspire or encourage you that even SMILING for the day is a GIFT. A GIFT that I believe came from the worlds first servant.

Again… I’m posting this because it provides yet another reason to….

Remember… be a servant,

    Hi Corey,
I agree 100%. We need to take our eyes off of ourselves and look at the ways that we can witness to our Lord’s mandate to be a servant. I wrote to you several weeks ago about the non profit foundation and transitional living home for women with addictions I was attempting to start. We were coming up short on our funds to purchase the property. I had asked for your help and you gave me some information to follow up on.
Well the Lord is good! We had an angel pop up and it looks like not only are we going to be able to open “My Sisters’ House” for women, but are being encouraged and supported to open “My Brothers’ House”. These will be homes where men and women can build a foundation (in Christ) upon which to build the rest of their lives. We focus on Christ’s provision, providence and protection, through which addictions can be broken, hearts and relationships can be healed, and futures can be built.
We are not affiliated with any specific denomination or government program. We are two women, one former addict and one former alcoholic, in the real estate business, Alston is a Realtor, I am an investor (short sales and REO’s mostly), that want to be servants. We met in jail where I was leading Bible Studies and she was leading AA classes. Neither one of us is wealthy, but we are well provided for by our Lord.
I enjoy being the acquisition coordinator in a small company, but nothing beats the thrill of watching lives impacted by Christ. Thank you for being such a good role model, by caring about more than the almighty buck. Please continue to pray for our ministry as we continue to pray for you and your wife.

    God Bless,
    Dawn Uselding

Cory, thank you for posting this. I have been suffering from social anxiety disorder since I was in elementary school but it didn’t have a name back then. For the past 20years I have been in the mortgage business and have watched my income go from extreme highs to extreme lows. About 3 years ago I had it in my mind that I was going to leave the mortgage bsn. and do what I’ve wanted to do for about 20 years… buy and sell real estate. I thought I’d do mortgages to have the income to keep my bills paid and medical benefits going while I got my investing business off the ground. About that same time my world came crashing down when I was coming off of a 3 day cruise to Mexico which I had won for sales with my company. My co-workers boarded a plane to go home and I went by ambulance to the ER. I was diagnosed with a panic attack and released after a few hours.

My income since then has gone from bad to worse. I have been treated for anxiety and depression over the past 2.5 years. I read something about social anxiety disorders and mentioned to my psychiatrist about my having what I thought was a social anxiety too and he poo pooed that. My business has taken a downward spiral because of my fear of the phone and talking to people. I feel like hiding under my desk when the phone rings. I’m great at paperwork. Doing that I don’t have to deal with people. Face to face or by phone just about does me in. Great thing to have happen when you work solely on commissions in the mortgage bsn and by sales in the REI business that I’ve longed to use to fund my retirement. I’ve used all of my retirement savings over the past 2 years because of the lack of loans and real estate deals. I get TONS of leads through my marketing but the fear of talking to people negates those leads. I don’t take the calls when they come in – I let them go to voicemail and then I don’t call them back.

Even right now the phone is ringing and I can’t pick it up. Then I get depressed about spending the money to get leads that I don’t call back. It’s been a viscious cycle. I am finally -hopefully on the the right medication for the anxierty and depression. I’m almost feeling like my ‘old’ self again.

One thing about your blog and then clicking on the links has brough to the forefront for me is that I really do (and have almost all of my life – I’m now 56) suffer from a social anxierty disorder regardless of what my psychiatrist says. When I read through the links it’s like someone has me under a microscope and they are talking about me and my life.

I’m sorry this is long but I just wanted to thank you for bringing this up at a time when I’m pennies away from being that man writing blogs from McDonalds. If it wasn’t for the generosity of family and friends I would have been there months ago. This ‘social anxiety’ stuff stinks. It’s pretty bad when you see the answer and offer of help right on the links in front of you but you are too afraid to click on them and take action. Thank you for bringing this to me. I know what I have to do but some prayer that I take the necessary steps to get my life back together by following through these links and taking the help that is being offered would be greatly appreciated.

You truly are a servant. Thanks again. B

PS. that call that I didn’t take a couple minutes ago turned out to be my doctor’s office returning my call from yesterday. I got the message from voice mail. Yuck.

This is great! We all too often get caught up in the day to day routine and forget. Thanks for the reminder.
