Unfortunately, the topic of the day is violence. There’s just no way around it. I wish we could go back to our election coverage and bounce that topic around some more. But those days are behind us and the world is now watching violence spiraling out of control.
Of course the focal point of all the terror, the rockets, the horror is the Middle East. It’s an old story and sad one, but in the last few days the intensity has gone up about a million degrees and it’s only right that we talk about it here. We could ignore the suffering of people half way around the world from us. We could pretend what they’re going through has nothing to do with us. But that’s just not the case.
Our country has endured disasters, both natural and man-made. And we know that getting people involved, making sure the facts are known and that aid is offered can make a huge difference in a person’s life, whether that person is a friend or a stranger.
I’m not going to tell you one side in the conflict is guilty or the other side is at fault. I won’t get into politics (we’ll stick with American politics!). But at the end of the day there are innocent people on both sides who are suffering. If you can get involved in a relief effort, if you can contribute something to help ease suffering, then I encourage you to do so. It’s a small act on your part but could save a life.
Please keep in your thoughts and your prayers the innocent men, women, and children, caught in a sad conflict. Hope for a safe end to all of the chaos and destruction, and pray for peace.
